Have a heart for animals on Valentine's Day

The Escondido Humane Society is asking everyone to have a heart for homeless animals this Valentine's Day by adopting a pet from our shelter. We will be having a sweetheart of an adoption special this Saturday and Sunday that we hope will inspire you to consider adoption at EHS. On both days, all pets can be adopted for $14 off their regular adoption fees*!

There will be plenty of opportunities to meet our pets this weekend even if you can’t make it out to the shelter. We are having two outreaches this Saturday: one at PetSmart Escondido, 415 N. Escondido Blvd., and the other at Kahoots, 334 W. El Norte Parkway. Then on Valentine’s Day, some of our foster dogs will be making an appearance at Cupids and Canines in San Diego. We hope you will take the event’s tag line to heart: “If you're dreading yet another loveless Valentine's Day ... don't dismay! This week's Escondido Humane Society Pet of the Week is Kone. Here's what he wants you to know about him:

I am a 3-year-old neutered male pit bull mix (ID # 42533). I am a volunteer favorite because I am such a special dog – inside and out. I am patient and gentle and love nothing more than to sit on your lap and be loved. I'm pretty mellow for a young dog, but a good game of soccer is my favorite pastime. The volunteers at the shelter are currently working with we to teach me the 10 skills on the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test, and I am already a star pupil! My adoption comes with a full session of beginner obedience classes courtesy of Hidden Valley Obedience Club so I can continue my training with my new family. I am an adorable, 2-year-old spayed female bunny mix (ID # is 40358). I have cute white markings around my toes and muzzle and have soulful brown eyes. I am friendly and easy to handle, but like most bunnies I would rather snuggle next to you than be held. I am available for adoption at the Escondido Humane Society. EHS bazaar is this Saturday

Do you want to make a difference in an animal's life while shopping? If so, do we have the event for you!

We are calling all treasure hunters to stop by our bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Escondido Humane Society, 3450 E. Valley Parkway. Various vendors will be selling at the bazaar, and a variety of items will be available for purchase, including books, crafts, clothes, jewelry and, of course, items for pets.

Any individuals or teams who have registered for Paws in the Park, which will be held on March 28 at Kit Carson Park, are invited to host a booth at no cost to them to help raise money for their efforts. Booth space is $15 for all other vendors. Turn your unused items into funds for animals!

Hi, I'm Tonya, a 4-year-old spayed female domestic shorthair mix (ID # 40768). The first thing you might notice about me is that I am a little different from all the other cats. I came to the Escondido Humane Society as a stray with a badly injured tail, which had to be amputated. But that hasn’t dampened my fun-loving personality and spirit! I am spunky and lively and love to play. I also know how to settle down and like to be held and cuddled. I am available for adoption at the Escondido Humane Society, 3450 E. Valley Parkway. Adoptable dog Flint on TV

Escondido Humane Society adoptable dog Flint really showed off his personality Monday morning on San Diego 6. Click on the photo below to watch his TV debut. Special thanks to Darlene White and the San Diego Animal Support Foundation for giving this sweet boy the exposure he needs to find a good home.

Get to know Flint:

Flint is a friendly, 2-year-old neutered male pitbull mix, available for adoption from the Escondido Humane Society's Foster Care Program. He's currently living with a guardian in Rancho Bernardo and enjoys walking around at Kit Carson Park. He lives in a condo, and he's demonstrated that he doesn't need a lot of space to be a happy dog. He just wants love and attention and some fun doggie toys. Flint is a snuggler, so you'll definitely have a buddy to cozy up to while watching TV and eating your popcorn. He's already house-trained, and crate-trained. He's friendly to all but would do best in an adult-only home or one with older kids because of his energy level and size. His adoption fee includes the cost of neutering, vaccinations, microchip ID and registration, de-worming, de-fleaing, a complimentary wellness check at local vet, a free starter bag of food, educational materials, and complimentary consultations with the shelter's behaviorist for the rest of his life. I had a rough start in life, so I have had a hard time trusting people at first. I have been with a foster family for a couple of months and they have taught me to love, trust, play with other dogs, ride in the truck and watch TV. I am now a happy little dog, and once I get to know you I am a loyal companion who likes to be cuddled (and, if allowed, wants to be in close under the covers!).
