Save the date for Tails at Twilight!

Join us at our 16th annual Tails at Twilight gala at the Orfila Vineyard and Winery on Oct. 17! Attendees will be treated to a silent auction, entertainment, dinner and much more. We are even inviting your canine companions to join the party!

This year's theme - "Fall in Love" - could not be more appropriate for the work we all do for animals in need. We provide loving care during their time with us, and we help them find a family who will give them the love they so deserve - love that they return tenfold. If you haven't joined us before, this is the year to accompany us as we celebrate making a difference in the lives of animals - and the many people who love them.

For tickets, sponsorship opportunities or auction information, e-mail Abigail Rowland Kouzi, Development Director, at development@escondidohumanesociety.org.

Seeking Pet Therapy volunteers

The Escondido Humane Society Pet Therapy Program is looking for volunteers to join its team. The program is perfect for people who want to make a wonderful difference in somebody’s life.

Volunteers in the Pet Therapy Program will take animals from the Humane Society’s Education Department to visit seniors in nursing homes, assisted-living facilities and other places that request animal visits to bring a little happiness and love to the residents that reside there.

Time commitment is about one-and-a-half hours once a month. Volunteers must use their own vehicles and commit to a minimum of six months. Volunteers must have the ability to work with seniors and the disabled and a willingness to work with a variety of animals.

For more information, contact Ina Shookhoff, director of education, at (760) 888-2261.

Audrey needs a home

Audrey, a three-legged terrier puppy, was found here at the shelter hiding under vehicles in the parking lot. We aren't sure if her missing leg is a birth defect or the result of an injury. Regardless of how she lost her leg, this little girl doesn't let it get her down! She gets around really well, and she is really sweet and loving.

Despite her rough start, Audrey is now ready to be adopted into a loving home. As you can see from the photos posted here, she has made a new friend in her time at the shelter: a foster kitten who isn’t quite ready for adoption yet.

If you are interested in Audrey, call our Adoptions Counselors at (760) 888-2247.

Doggie Birthday Party and benefit

Winston and Ruby, two Golden Retrievers and official greeters at Mountain Beadworks in Julian, are having birthdays this week. To celebrate, Winston and Ruby - and their very kind and generous parents - are having a birthday celebration tomorrow at the store. But instead of gifts for themselves, Winston and Ruby are asking you to donate to their fellow furry friends here at the Escondido Humane Society!

Anyone who brings a new or unused pet item or treat (to be donated to the deserving adoptable dogs and cats at EHS) will receive a 15% discount off all purchases at Mountain Beadworks on Saturday. Some of our adoptable dogs will be making an appearance from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help celebrate, and there also will be tasty treats, jewelry-making activities and fun to help celebrate.

Mountain Beadworks is at 4470 Highway, Julian, 92036. Here is the link to their Web site if you need anymore information:
