Calendar Contest still seeking entries

You know that your pet is the cutest/prettiest/most handsome on the block – now you can show the world by entering the Escondido Humane Society’s “Best Friends 2010” Calendar Contest.

We are accepting entries for the calendar contest now through July 15. The first 50 entries that meet contest guidelines will be featured in our Community Collage, so early birds are guaranteed fame. Eleven winning photographs will appear as the famous Pets of the Month. Pictured here is Max, last year's winner for July.

Every completed entry receives a complimentary high-quality calendar. Your tax-deductible entry donation of $25 supports animal rehabilitation and adoption programs at the shelter, so every entry means a happier life for a pet still waiting to become someone's special "star."

Entry forms can be downloaded at http://www.escondidohumanesociety.org/ehs_056.htm or picked up at the shelter. E-mail completed entries to calendar@escondidohumanesociety.org.

Meet our adoptable dogs at Western Days!

This weekend is Valley Center Western Days just up the road from the Escondido Humane Society. The event includes an old-fashioned parade, Western Shoot-Outs, a carnival, vendors, food and live music. We will participate in the event by taking some of our adoptable dogs for the community to meet, including Snowflake (pictured here). If you are looking for something fun to do, be sure to swing by and say hello!

Dog adoption outreach tomorrow

Tomorrow is our second Saturday adoption outreach at Kahoots, 334 W. El Norte Parkway in Escondido. Stop by from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to meet some great dogs looking for great homes.

Community outreach is an important part of what we do here at the Escondido Humane Society. We have dog adoption outreaches almost every weekend. It's great for the dogs because they get to spend an afternoon away from the shelter, and it offers an excellent opportunity for the community to meet adoptable animals away from the shelter. Here's a rundown of our adoption outreaches:

Second Saturday of the month: Kahoots West, 334 W. El North Parkway, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Third Saturday: Foster adoption outreach at Kahoots Rancho Bernardo, Bernardo Plaza Drive

We also hold outreaches at Petco, 1000 W. Valley Parkway, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 one Saturday of every month. There also are bunnies and cats available for adoption on-site.

Check our events calendar at http://www.escondidohumanesociety.org/ehs_075.htm to stay up to date on our outreaches and other events.

May goings-on

May is already shaping up to be a busy month! Here's what's happening now at the Escondido Humane Society:

Be Kind to Animals promotion: May 3-9 is Be Kind to Animals Week, but we think it's such an important cause that we are going to celebrate for the entire month. Want to put your kindness on display? For a $5 donation to the animals at EHS, you can sign your name on a paw print that we will proudly display in the shelter to show your support for animals in need. You also can donate online by visiting our Web site at http://www.escondidohumanesociety.org/.

Sponsor an animal in mom's name: For just $20, you can sponsor an animal awaiting a home at the Escondido Humane Society in her honor. We will send her an e-card with a photo and bio of her sponsored pet acknowledging your very special gift. Go to http://www.escondidohumanesociety.org/ to find out how.

Best Friends Calendar Contest: Think your pet is pinup material? If so, submit your pet's best pose to our Best Friends 2010 Calendar Contest! Every completed entry receives a complimentary high-quality calendar. Click here for contest guidelines and directions: http://www.escondidohumanesociety.org/ehs_056.htm
